Representation of capacity drop at a road merge via point constraints in a first order traffic model

2018

We reproduce the capacity drop phenomenon at a road merge by implementing a non-local point constraint at the junction in a first order traffic model. We call capacity drop the situation in which the outflow through the junction is lower than the receiving capacity of the outgoing road, as too many vehicles trying to access the junction from the incoming roads hinder each other. In this paper, we first construct an enhanced version of the locally constrained model introduced by Haut et al. (Proceedings 16th IFAC World Congress. Prague, Czech Republic 229 (2005) TuM01TP/3), then we propose its counterpart featuring a non-local constraint and finally we compare numerically the two models by c…

Control points deployment in an Intelligent Transportation System for monitoring inter-urban network roadway

2022

Abstract The constant evolution of transportation systems and traffic in developing countries is nowadays confronted with a problem of road safety and therefore of a high accident rate, especially in the context of inter-urban road transport. In this work, we propose a communication architecture for an Intelligent Transport System (ITS) to provide surveillance in an inter-urban transport network in the context of developing countries. We introduce two types of control points: Relay Control Points (RCP) and Treatment Control Points (TrCP). We also designed two multi-objective models for the deployment of these points. In order to ensure good coverage, to minimize the cost of installation and…

Multi-hop D2D Communications with Network Coding : From A Performance Perspective

2019

Multi-hop device-to-device (D2D) communications play an important role in expanding D2D coverage. In this paper, we study a relay-based and network-coding-assisted (in particular, XOR coding) multi-hop D2D communication system. In the system, toward jointly considering the impact of interference and network traffic conditions on the quality of D2D communications, various channel fading models and traffic models are investigated, and the packet loss probability of D2D links is meticulously computed using these models. With the packet loss probability of D2D links, the general closed-form expressions of end-to-end packet loss probability (E2EPLP) of the system with the presence (or absence) o…

VEF Traces: A Framework for Modelling MPI Traffic in Interconnection Network Simulators

2015

Simulation is often used to evaluate the behaviour and measure the performance of computing systems. Specifically, in high-performance interconnection networks, the simulation has been extensively considered to verify the behaviour of the network itself and to evaluate its performance. In this context, network simulation must be fed with network traffic, also referred to as network workload, whose nature has been traditionally synthetic. These workloads can be used for the purpose of driving studies on network performance, but often such workloads are not accurate enough if a realistic evaluation is pursued. For this reason, other non-synthetic workloads have gained popularity over last dec…

Attracting sets in a deterministic discrete traffic model

2001

The fundamental diagram of the Nagel-Schreckenberg traffic model is derived analytically for the deterministic case using methods and concepts from nonlinear dynamics. It is shown that the possible states of the long-term behaviour form a globally attractive subset which can be well characterized. This attractive set of states is composed of coexisting attractors. The attractor concept is applied to a slow-to-start extension of the model. For this example it is shown that the attractive set consists of coexisting attractors with different macroscopic properties, that can be determined analytically.

Procedure for a Temperature-Traffic Model on Rubberized Asphalt Layers for Roads and Railways

2017

The impact of temperature on the mechanical properties and thermal susceptibility of the railway bituminous sub-ballast layer, has served as motivation to develop the advanced measurement of thermal cycles in this layer and, an evaluation of the average seasonal temperatures interpolated by sinusoidal functions, of which characteristic parameters are determined. According to weather situation, Barber’s temperature model was used to prove the effectiveness for the railway superstructure. It is included the assessment of improved modified asphalt mixes performed with coarse rubber from scrap tires, having 1.5 to 3 percent of crumb rubber (particle size 0.2-4 mm) by weight of the total mix, as…
